‘Masterpieces of Chinese Lacquer from the Mike Healy Collection’, Julia White, Honolulu Academy of Art, 2006, p. 48-49
Carved with a similar yet slightly more ornate sword-pommel design compared to no. 1 in this catalogue, this slightly higher, domed box consists of five bands radiating from a star-shaped central medallion on the top.[1] The carved black scrolls are alternated with three layers of red lacquer, giving a strong sense of depth to this ‘tixi’ lacquer box.
